Innovative and spontaneous duo stringmansassy will hit the stage this Sunday 29 September, for the second last Live at Bond Sunday session to be held at the ADCO Amphitheatre for 2013.
Vocalist Kacey Patrick and guitarist Aaron Hopper have toured extensively internationally and throughout Australia and performed at some of the country’s most prestigious venues and festivals.
The pair performed at Bond in 2011 at a packed out Bond by the Lake event and Kacey says she is excited to have the opportunity to return and perform in front of her home crowd.
“I am a Gold Coast based artist – this is my home – and it is a privilege to be able to engage with my own local community,” she said.
“I have attended Live at Bond events in recent times as a spectator and I am grateful to now have the opportunity to bring stringmansassy back to main stage.
“The amphitheatre is such a fantastic space and I commend Bond on its commitment to bringing music and community together with these all ages, family friendly events.”
Originally from Brisbane, stringmansassy has established a loyal following across Queensland over the years and Kacey says the enthusiasm from these supporters has been encouraging and uplifting.
“We have travelled the globe and performed in some wonderfully exotic places, but our core support comes from South East Queensland,” she said.
“Those that have followed our music are excited about hearing our old material live, but this performance also gives Aaron and I a chance to showcase our new material, which – although remains true to our essence – has a lot more colour and maturity.
“We have spent time been performing individually over the last few years, and we have both grown and evolved as artists. We have always treated the voice and the guitar as two separate instruments and we have once again come together to expand what these instruments can do together.
“Our goal is to create sublimely beautiful music that connects with people on an intrinsic level that only music has the ability to do.”
Known for their ability to transcend their jazz and folk roots to create spell binding, enthralling and passionate music, the refined and sophisticated performers are also unique arrangers of every musical genre.
They have expanded the realm for guitar and voice, proving that it is possible to create an astonishing musical atmosphere with a small ensemble.
Each performance retains elements of their influences including Bobby McFerrin, Patti Griffin, Ella Fitzgerald, and many more, along with Middle-Eastern, African and Celtic traditional music.
Community Engagement Manager Sharon Solyma says stringmansassy has become one of the most highly regarded performance duos in Australia and it is an honour to have them kick off the spring performance season at Bond University.
“Over a 12 year career, they have retained their ability to create a world of their own, full of passion, conviction, belief and beauty, and it’s fantastic to see them return and share their unique sound,” she said.
stringmansassy’s music has been played on major radio networks throughout Australia, with their song Beautiful Day included on the ABC national play list.
Sharon says the stringmansassy event, which runs from 3.00pm to 5.15pm, will be supported by Owen Van Larkins, in collaboration with Fretfest and is expected to draw the crowds on the back of a popular autumn season that was exploding with local talent.
“The autumn Live at Bond season was a huge success, with a diverse mix of people flocking to the ADCO Amphitheatre to watch incredibly talented musicians perform for free,” she said.
“The outdoor music series has been running since 2011 and is a fantastic way to engage the community in something artistic, that is accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
“The last two events for the year will provide the community with yet another affordable day out, in a comfortable environment with a fun and enriching atmosphere.”
Guests are invited to bring their own rug, chair or picnic basket and enjoy an afternoon of free music and entertainment. Alternatively, wine, beer, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are available for purchase, and cushions are provided for comfortable seating in the ADCO Amphitheatre.
Free parking is available and conveniently located in the near-by PG 3 car park, next to the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine building.
The spring program concludes on Sunday, 27 October with David Taylor, whose band includes guitarist Nick Stewart and drummer Geoff Green, from ARIA award winning Brisbane band George, and Scott French on mandolin, ukulele, trumpet and melodica. Taylor band will be supported by Deena Lynch.
